window in phrase library

Posted

would it be possible to put a small temporary note display in library pool.. Looking at a bunch of Numbers, it not very intuitive.. The display would not have to be very big. just enough to show some activity..  It could be a temporary on/off thing, so it was out of the way when you didn't want it..

One of the issues with SFP now is there are too many windows, especially if you are using a small monitor. At home I have two large monitors, so it's fine.  But I often work on MacBook 13, it is quite a chore to keep juggling windows to get at what I need to access.

Mark ... you are a busy guy today! Even without ever having gotten my hands on SFP yet, I understand exactly the workflow issues you are making suggestions about.

Download a demo of Sony Creative Acid Pro (I thiink they now have it or the MAC) just to check out the window configuration screen.

I think it's brilliant. You have a large horizontal project window within the frame for your basic project ... resizeable vertically ... and then a  second resizeable smaller area on the bottom where you can configure one or more 'child' windows side across the frame. All the child windows are tabbed and docked. This means you can click the tab to open or close them or, when they are open and not closed with the tab, you can drag them out of the main window and set up as an independent floating window.

I probably don't describe it as well as it deserves. Take a look. That would be the scheme I'd like to see in SFP/ HN2 ... except I think the main division should be vertical instead of horizontal.

Window layout is a top priority already. Requires a lot of experimentation.

Understood ... and this came up about a week ago.

Please take a look at the Sony Acid Pro GUI while you are considering changes. I obviously have no idea of how difficult it would be technically to implement, but as a 'concept' to consider while planning your changes, I hope you can have a look at it.

The challenge is that layout depends on workflow, which in turn depends on the music genre.

Perhaps we (the Users) should give a brief description on their workflow, that might start to give Andre some insight.. I'm sure that the more users there are, people will have a slightly or great difference in their work flow..

Prado - I'm in NYC; we've had no electricity or cell service in our neighborhood for several days now..  I can walk 8 blocks north.  I spend three hours in Dunkin Donuts,  move to Gi Gi Cafe, spend another three hours, and if I still have enough energy go to the senior center.  Then when I get home use computer till the battery wears down..

So i've really been giving SFP a work out, Don't have Logic on the 13' macbook.  It's been good in a way, cause I'm exploring and thinking of processes in SFP..

I do want everyone to know  - I LOVE SYNFIRE PRO - it is the most exciting piece of software I've used, and when it get's smoothed out more.... OH BOY.. It's already a lot more friendly than when I first bought it..

Very true ... which is why a window design that permits the user to modify it to their work flow is the ideal. In my opinion, the Sony Acid Pro does this better than any other program or DAW I have ever used.

I have used Cubase (still do), Reaper, Sonar and Pro Tools all at their highest versions at the times ... along with a host of ancillary programs like Band In The Box, Jammer, etc., etc. I also use other software. Band In The Box has, by the way, the all time worst GUI I've ever seen!

Ideal window design permits an itially easy and inviting GUI with the ability to deeply customize it to workflow. Cubase has a 'Windows' feature set where up to 10 different configurations of the main window and child windows is merely a key stroke away. It is very deep, since there is so much ability to customize the child windows within or off the main window.

I think that Sony Acid Pro does a much better job through the use of it's tab and docking of child windows. I have difficulty conceiving of any work flow that it would not be capable of successfully capturing through modification.

The 'Gold Standard' would be a setup like Sony's for straightforward acessibility with the additional feature of key stroking specific window configurations. I don't expect a small company like yourselves necessarily to have the programming  resources to accomplish all these things ... but it is good to have a clear vision of where you would like to go as you set off down the path.

Ahh! Dunkin Donuts ... I grew up in the Northeast and got my first coffees there. They've migrated out tot he West Coast now ... but I'd already become a Starbauck's sissy.

I do want to give props to Supertonic and Andre ... for all the frustration of mine they put up with.

And even more for their rapid respone to serious bugs and ... ahem (patting self on back) ... good ideas. It was only a few days after my request to add 'Duplicate' to the right context of the Section menu before the revision to HN2 with it came out and similarly with the 'Follow Section' bug I found.

Anyway, Mark, it's good you can walk and don't have to fill your gas tank these days, hunh?
