When playing the palette or any progression, you may have noticed that in Chords-Only mode, HN2 and Synfire do not play every chord in root position, as one might expect.
I've attached a spreadsheet (Excel) showing all the Interpretation Presets in one place. If you hover over the titles (the cells with the red triangles) it displays a definition of the setting. These definitions have mainly been taken from the manual, and from responses to queries I have posted on this forum.
You may need to adjust the layout to suit your monitor. It fits just right on my desktop, but on my laptop some of the comments disappear so that I have to scroll to see them.
I have found it very useful for comparing the different presets, and it has also helped me gain a better understanding of this important parameter. I hope some of you may also find it useful.
The parameter "Interpretation" plays an important role at the conversion of the figures of an instrument (the parameter "Figure") into MIDI notes. It is responsible for the voice leading. It is able to resolve harmonic conflicts between the instruments automatically and thereby it can avoid unwanted dissonances. But "Interpretation" means more than that.
In Synfire musical figures are represented by Symbols. There are different symbol types which are intended for different musical purposes and represented by different colors.
From user feedback and support questions we learned that there seem to be a few fundamentally wrong assumptions regarding what progressions are and how they work. Especially LE users seem to get confused by the built-in voice leading and its effect on pitch distribution (voicing) of chords.
A while ago the question arose how Synfire chains all the parameters internally. In certain situations one might want to know, for example, whether Shift is applied after Rhythm, or at which step in the rendering process Pause actually becomes effective.
