Synfire and Cubase 8 Pro with loopbackdriver for Windows

Author janamdo

With this setup Synfire is connected by the Loopbe loopbackdriver in Cubase 8 Pro

In synfire you can compose and the two midichannels in Synfire are connected with two Vsti's ( Vsti + non-Vsti ), who are hosted in Cubase 8 pro (Cubase 8 pro acts here as a soundmodule )

The two midichannels in Cubase are two instrument channels and for hearing them you must select them in Cubase.

By the way:

You can enable monitoring on the channels in Cubase

so you don't have to have them selected all the time.

Actually with monitoring enabled you don't have to select them at all...

If monitoring is on, Cubase will always listen to the input. (Be it Midi or Audio, depends on type of channel...)

Best,

tL.

Huge help here finally got Cubase hooked up. Thank you.Image removed.

I guess it's important to note using internal midi for both from Synfire and Cubase.

Hi, first i go with the midi loopbackdriver setup and later went on with cognitone drone setup.

The Cognitone drone setup is more accurate with timing as i understand and there are more benefits to use a cognitone drone setup in your DAW ( drag and drop midi )..what else more?

It is rather easy to use a drone in Cubase .. load one drone in Cubase ( for 16 midi channels = 16 instruments ) if you have a multiport Vsti ..like i have with Halion 5 you can connect up to 64 instrument channels in Synfire.

How about seperate vsts? I mean the way describe it, when you go to record it will record all midi will go into seperate midi channels of just one vst. So I would still have to move the midi to other channels if I want to use different VST? Is that correct?

I was thinking on making a WIKI tutorial too for a drone in Cubase and Synfire, but it take some time

I thought you can install any Vsti or native Vsti on a midi channels in Cubase and these midi channels are connected with a own instrument channel in Synfire
To get the midi in Cubase you must export it from Synfire and import in Cubase again ( no drag and drop possible i thought..as it is only possible with a midi drone)

Hey thanks again taking time to explain the way it works. I did get it up and running. Definitely a step by step would help others out. I would like to contribute too. What about the Rewire error you get everytime you hit play inside of Synfire? Any way to get that working?

k. I couldn't figure it out. It seemed very much like I had sound coming out of every channel going to every channel in Cubase.. very confusing. go back to Loopbe back for right now.

In the animated gif tutorial with the  loopbackdriver ..you can see that the play pointer goes in sync..

I did not mentioned in the tutorial as it seems ? .. you go to menu : playback>>external synchronization and tickbox the two rewire options on

In Cubase there is no need to install something for the transport ( i thought) ..check it out  Image removed.

What are you are trying to achieve here ( your goal? )

PS: i made a template for the drone in Cubase and Synfire.. so i must look at this again how the routing is exactly working
,although once a template is working it can be used over and over again

I will look at the drone/cubase template and post it here if i can find it
I cleaned up all Synfire files.. but template file in Cubase is themost important..unfortunately got a error message about the e-licenser..first fix that

Cool. Thanks again.  I got that to work for transport and Loopbe Back.

I am going to stick with Loopbe Back for now.
